On November 20, the Tackle Tomorrow Foundation—led by Pro Football Hall of Famer and five-time Super Bowl champion Charles Haley—was proud to host one of our largest food drives yet, providing full Thanksgiving meals to 3,500 families across 10 DISD campuses that participate in our reading program. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our partners and volunteers, each family received a complete holiday package including a whole turkey, four cans of corn, yams, and stuffing.
Our meals were distributed to the following schools: W.A. Blair Elementary School, Rufus C. Burleson Elementary School, Frederick Douglass Elementary School, Paul L. Dunbar Learning Center, H.I. Holland Elementary School, Otto M.Fridia Elementary School, Zan Wesley Holmes Jr. Middle School, Dr. Frederick Douglass Todd Sr. Middle School, Ascher Silberstein Elementary School, and H.S. Thompson Elementary School. These schools serve some of DISD;s highest need neighborhoods and the meals directly support the families enrolled in Tackle Tomorrow’s literacy initiatives.
More than 150 volunteers came together to load, package, and distribute meals throughout South Dallas. Their enthusiasm and commitment brought warmth and hope to thousands of students and their families, making the event both efficient and joyful.
This effort would not have been possible without the support of our dedicated partners: Albertsons, Tom Thumb, the Dallas Police Department, AT&T, ACME Brick, the North Dallas Alphas, Vandergriff Chevy, MISA Imports, 7Eleven, and our amazing student volunteers. Their collaboration reflects the true spirit of community—coming together to ensure that every family can celebrate the holiday season with dignity and abundance.
And we’re not done yet. On December 18, Tackle Tomorrow will host another food drive, aiming to provide over 3,000 families with complete Christmas dinner meals. We’d love to see even more volunteers join us to make an impact during this special season.
